ITO makes bamboo bed sheets for Filipino homes. We started in Manila in 2017. This is how it began.
It started with a new home
Our founder, Laarni Reyes-Carandang, began looking for greener everyday products when she got married. She and her husband wanted a home built on a more eco-friendly way of living, from the kitchen to the laundry.
Most things were easy to swap. Bedding was not. Most homes sleep on cotton or silk, and neither fit the home they had in mind.
After a lot of reading, she found bamboo bedsheets. There weren't many options, and the ones she found were pricey. So she asked a friend who cared about the same things, and together they set out to make bamboo bedding easier for Filipinos to buy.
Why we chose bamboo lyocell
Bamboo grows back fast. It reaches maturity in 3 to 5 years. Fabric made from bamboo is close to silk in texture, and it breathes well.
Our sheets are made of bamboo lyocell. Lyocell is made in a closed-loop process that aims for little waste and few emissions while saving water. You can read more about the fabric on our Why Bamboo page.
Bamboo sheets for the Philippines
We didn't want to make sheets for trends. We wanted to make them to last you a long time. We also believe that when it comes to sleep, you should not skimp on it.
By July 2018 we were selling at bazaars around Metro Manila. Most of our sales were online, which kept our costs down. Today you can order our sheets right here at ito.com.ph.
Our sheet sets come in every bed size, from Twin to California King. If you aren't sure which one fits your mattress, our size guide has the measurements. When you're ready, browse our bamboo bed sheets.
Where the name ITO comes from
ITO is named after our mother, who was affectionately called Mommy Ito. She was a huge inspiration to us, and she taught us valuable lessons in life. This company is our tribute to her.
Ito is also the Japanese word for thread. We like that it fits a company that makes sheets.
What others have said
In 2018, Metro Style picked ITO for its Bed and Bath Gift Guide. Our founder told them, "Bamboo lyocell is an amazing, earth-friendly fabric made from the pulp of sustainable resources like bamboo."
Jinggoy Salvador of Sun Star Davao tried our sheets and wrote that silk "may be costly," and offered bamboo bed sheets as "something more affordable."
